The Nutcracker Orlando reviews
We left before act 2
I was completely unaware that this was a children's performance.
I can't say anything bad about the actual performers, they did well and were talented, but when I took my wife (who has never seen the nutcracker) to this performance, it was incredibly awkward. It was like watching a children's school play.
I was incredibly disappointed. there SHOULD be some indication of the fact that this was not performed by adults.
To describe the performance, it was difficult to watch and follow. Where professional performers can convey the actual plot via dance and interpretation, if you did not already know the story, there was absolutely no way you could follow along (without reading the playbook)
great job for the kids, but terrible for a date night play.
Missing the Christmas feel
First off- the orchestra and talent were exceptional.
However, after excitedly awaiting the return of the Nutcracker, my guest and I were disappointed. Gone was the Christmas party, Maria’s dream of princes, mouse kings and trip to afar away place. There were no Spanish ladies, Arabian rugs, Chinese dancers or Russian dancers. This was replaced with berry pickers, sailors, and lumberjacks. The biggest loss was the large Mother Ginger with her skirt filled with gingerbread children. I come to the Nutcracker to have all the
glorious Christmas feels. This was a version that could be performed any time of year. So sad that they changed the “magic”. After attending for 18 years- I may not be back to Duluth but will seek out a performance elsewhere.
